Indian folk metal group DYMBUR adds a new member to their armoury

1 min read

As of late, Shillong metallers Dymbur have been keeping themselves quite busy. Last November, they came up with their latest single ‘Rape Culture’ featuring their brand new line-up for the very first time. Today, the metal band has announced that they’ve welcomed a brand new member into their fold.

Gaudy Shullai, primarily a guitarist and also a multi-instrumentalist, has joined forces with Dymbur as their sixth active member. The news was made public via their social media handles on Thursday evening. The band has also informed us that Gaudy would be playing the guitar and duitara (an Indian folk instrument) for the folk metal group.

Starting as a modern school progressive metal outfit, Dymbur has experienced several line-up changes over the years. Guitarist Cornelius Kharsyntiew and bassist Mayson Dkhar are the only original members left in the Dymbur camp, although that didn’t keep them from releasing music and hitting the stage frequently.

In 2019, they released their debut full-length album titled ‘The Legend of Thraat’ to much critical acclaim. Then last year, with the release of their single ‘Rape Culture’, Dymbur came up with their new line-up featuring a shift in the genre to Khasi Thraat Folk metal, which fuses Khasi folk music with their brand of 8-string chugged progressive metal. The song also featured several indigenous folk instruments of the Khasi and Jaintia communities of Northeast India, like Ka Duitara, Ka Mieng, Ka Bom, and Ka Shaw Shaw.
