Write for us

# Write about the music you can’t stop talking about

You don’t need a degree or a track record, just an opinion and a willingness to be edited. It’s unpaid, and we’ll tell you exactly what you get instead.

## The deal

**This is unpaid.** We don’t pay for contributions. If that doesn’t work for you, no hard feelings. If it does, here’s what you get.

### Your name on it

A byline on every piece, and an author page with your bio and links.

### A real editor

We work through each piece with you and show you the edit before it goes live.

### Clips to show

Published work you can point to when you pitch anywhere else, paid outlets included.

### Your copyright

You own what you write. We only ask for permission to publish it.

### A shot at access

When promos, interviews or guest-list spots come our way, we offer them to contributors. We can’t promise them.

## What we ask of you

- Your own work, not published anywhere else
- An open mind when it comes to the edit
- A heads-up if you’re going to miss a deadline
- No paid links, sponsored posts or undeclared ties to the band

## What we’d love to read

### Reviews

Albums, EPs and singles. Tell us what it does to you, not just what it sounds like.

### Gig reports

The night, the room and the crowd, as well as the setlist.

### Interviews

Someone you’d love to talk to, and the question nobody has asked them.

### Features and essays

The record that changed your life, or the argument you keep having at the bar.

### Scene reports

What’s happening where you live, and who we should know about.

## How it works

### Pitch us

A few lines on what you want to write. No finished piece needed.

### Hear back within 7 days

Yes, no or “how about this instead”. You’ll get an answer either way.

### Write and edit

You set a deadline with your editor, then you work on the piece together.

### See it published

It goes live under your name, and it’s yours to share.

## Good questions

### Do you pay?

No. We don’t pay for contributions, now or as a promise for later. If you need paid work, and plenty of good writers do, we’ll understand.

### Do I need experience?

No. Writing samples help, but a good pitch counts for more than a CV. Your first piece can be your first piece.

### Who owns what I write?

You do. You give us a non-exclusive licence to publish it here and share it. We just ask you to wait 30 days before publishing it somewhere else.

### How much do I have to write?

As much or as little as you like. There’s no minimum and no contract, and you can stop whenever you want.

### Can I use a pen name?

Yes. Your editor needs to know who you are, but readers only see the name you choose.

### Can I pitch a band I’m connected to?

Tell us about the connection in your pitch. We can’t run a review of your own band or a client’s, but there may be another way to cover it.
