EP Review: Anu Lang – Liquid Enemy

Have you ever felt that upliftment which can be experienced when listening to an instrumental record? If not, then Anubhav Langthasa’s (Anu Lang) solo instrumental EP will give you a kick you deserve.

Anubhav Langthasa (Link Factor Studios, Silchar) has released a 5 track EP called LIQUID ENEMY on May 20 2017, and it goes without saying that this is one of the finest pieces of work that may have emerged from this part of the country. What makes me say this is once you give the EP a spin, you will instantly take a trip to FEEL-adelphia. The feel of each and every track is just mesmerizing. The songs are not very technical, less shredding, more legato. And each sustained note hits in the right places.

I am a huge Satriani fan and I, for one, can say that this record has given me the best vibe after the legends I look up to (Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker).

The first track off the record is RAIN JAM and the upbeat groove of the song since the very beginning is the perfect first impression to the entire EP. Like I said, the tracks are not very “shreddy” if that is a right word but the long sustained legatos, octave chords are the reasons this song is so highly impressive.

The second track, FALLEN ANGEL has the catchiest licks among the lot. If you listen to it once, the intro guitar lick will place a foundation in your head, I can vouch for it.

TEARS OF THE MAIDEN is one of the sweetest symphonic speed metal songs I have heard, it is the shortest track in the EP and is followed the track entitled “Chaotic Symphony” has a very good riff which connects well to the guitar solo that it complements.

The final song DRIFT is the fastest and heaviest song off the EP and a complete opposite to the remaining tracks of the rest of the record. It is speed metal at its finest initially then it takes a sweet turn halfway with impressive guitar work.

The entire EP is a ride which can be enjoyed through each and every song. Though RAIN JAM is my favourite from the EP, every other song is also equally impressive and fun to listen to.
