Veteran Indian metal band Inner Sanctum has announced that they have found their new frontman. The Bengaluru-based thrash metallers have roped in Shashank Bhatnagar as their new vocalist, filling in the void left by Gaurav Basu.

New Delhi-based Shashank Bhatnagar is known for being the former vocalist of the metal band Undying Inc, until his departure in 2019. In a social media post, the band wrote, “When the frontman role was up for grabs, in all honesty, we couldn’t think of anyone else in the country who fit the role better than Shashank. He oozes frontman energy, and we are extremely excited with the new avatar of the band.”

Bhatnagar is also currently a part of the covers project Capital Metal, apart from being the co-founder of the event management organization Unbolly. “Our fans will definitely be served with the same Inner Sanctum flavors, but with Shashank in the mix, expect a wider buffet, both life and in the studio. The band is already stage-ready and we have some new music coming up”, said the band in their statement.

Gaurav Basu a.k.a. Acid Toad left Inner Sanctum last month after being the face of the band for almost 16 years. The band released their latest single ‘The Face of Evil’ right after his departure which marks his last collaboration with the band as their vocalist. The track also featured legendary German Marco Minneman on drums.

Talking to Rolling Stone India, Bhatnagar said, “Not just an epiphany but for something extremely heavy, yet melodic at the same time. Somewhere I could truly pour myself into, and reconnect with my past self. The self I lost in the transition of the pandemic and then some more work and family life.”

The current line-up of Inner Sanctum comprises vocalist Shashank Bhatnagar, guitarists Chintan Chinappa and Arjun Mulky, bassist Narayan Shrouthy, and drummer Ujwal K.S.
