Eternal Scorn, a thrash metal quartet based in Shillong, Meghalaya earlier released a demo that lit eyes across the region far and near; represents the band as an embodiment of raw-pure talent with conspicuous determination, dedication, and hard work upon their quenching thirst for conquering their passion to play thrash metal. Since their inception, the band has managed to engross a huge fan following in Shillong and our neighbouring states across the country.

It’s not right to compare them with well-established bands out there or to compare their sound with, let’s say Teutonic or Bay area, even though they have been influenced by it yet they are scrapping for a sound of their own, a sound that people could say recognized it as Eternal Scorn. Sepultura when they started, did their own thing and the result of it was the emergence of a sound known to the world as Brazilian Thrash.

Today we’re premiering Eternal Scorn’s debut single Seeker of Violence, which is a basic gist of what has been enumerated above. Before going into the sound of the track, let’s talk about what the song symbolizes, get to know more about the artwork, and furthermore.

Seeker of Violence is a metaphor of the world we’re living in, it is not reticent to say that mankind will bring upon his own destruction. In a world where every nation is striving towards nuclear power and destitution, unity & sense of humanity are extremely insignificant. It shall come when our leaders who lust for power and dominance, who took an oath of supremacy to serve the people in hatred in the name of ‘Patriotism’, reveal their true identity of just how morally corrupted they are.

It unearths, “The harsh realities of our world where ‘the ones in power are the ones who pulled the trigger.’ We are all being led blindly and we refuse to see the truth, whereas they are in control, keep on searching for more power, waging war and it is all for their own gain. Hence Seeking violence is to satisfy their thirst.” the band expresses.

‘Seeker of Violence’ furthermore takes us down the barrel of a cruel destructive world, our reality as seen in the artwork designed by S. Denzil Budon which comes to light before the recording of the song wherein, “The band discussed the art and everyone shared their own ideas based on the song.”

The artwork represents the outcome of greed, an unending quenched thirst for power; it fathoms a plethora of the aftermath of war and we could see a figure standing tall amid ruins, a mascot who goes by the name of Sgt. Slaughter (Designed by Radbor Lyngdoh) represents “The world leaders who are hungry for power, destroying countries, turning them into wastelands and betraying the people. In the art, there are people still following the mascot which is a sad reality where we can see people still following their leaders despite of their many deceptions,” stated the band.

We live in a world of ruins, the mascot to me (maybe to you too) is a symbol of mankind’s self-destruction. Soldiers fight a war by the order given by those in power “For the protection of the citizens,” but at the cost of millions of innocent souls of another country. All for power. War doesn’t bring peace but it begets another malady. Countries developing nuclear weapons, for what? For ‘defence’? They are itching to unleash those fiery stars and it might be soon. So, Kudos to Eternal Scorn for such a great song.

It’s quite clear enough to say that ‘Seeker of Violence’ is a concept song that speaks against those in power and that’s what thrash metal as a genre is.  It is rebellious¸ it opposes all wrongs¸ it dwells on angst, societal chaos¸ political propaganda, and the malicious character of humanity; it depicts the ugly truth of life and society which the media has shunned to portray or depict.

It synchronizes all the repugnant, atrocious, and malignant nature of mankind in artistic form. Eternal Scorn has been able to execute all those elements with their debut single with the help of Nangsan Lyngwa from Plague Throat who helped with the production and recordings. They have grown musically and technically. Their music has matured over the years and the vocalist has definitely risen as one of the best in the region.

Earlier, I mentioned that they were scrapping for a sound of their own, a sound that people could easily recognize as Eternal Scorn, and they have! They have given birth, and they have incepted a sound that is truly Shillong Thrash metal. There’s a mixture of old, and new thrash sound, even a bit of hard-core elements in it but it is theirs, it is ETERNAL SCORN. It’s fast, it has speed, the riffages are quite melodious, the drums are compact and solidified along with those ripping bass lines, there’s nothing I’ve heard like it before and it’s violently beautiful. But that’s for you to decide whether it’s a ripper or not.
