Hailing from the streets of Karachi, Pakistani thrash metal outfit Tabahi (facebook/instagram)has long upheld the flag of extreme metal in their country for more than a decade. Now, gearing up to release their second full-length album, Tabahi has recently dropped a brand new single titled ‘Obsidian’, which is a serious force to be reckoned with.

Tabahi takes its cues from the 80’s German thrash bands such as Destruction and Kreator, armed with some classic Bay Area influences such as Exodus and Slayer. With stingy vocals and claustrophobic riffs, their music will take you right into the heart of Karachi with a pure thrash assault that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

The song ‘Obsidian’ bursts off at a break-neck speed with relentless riffing and fast-paced galloping drumming, led by shrieky screamed vocals. Clocking just below the two-minute mark, the song contains all the trademark signs of a classic thrash composition, which also flexes a sick lead solo at its conclusion.

The song expresses the band’s defiance in the face of adversity and their determination to pursue metal music despite being marginalized. They confront the lies and doubt spread about them, emphasizing their resilience and refusing to be silenced.

Tabahi has also released a music video for the single ‘Obsidian’, which takes us through the slum areas of Karachi.

The band could be seen performing the song surrounded by a mob of kids, who are caught in a moshpit and banging their heads to the chaos of the song.

Perhaps, the only criticism of this diligently crafted single is that it’s a bit too short for its own good, thereby leaving a lingering sense of longing when the song ends. The single is taken off their upcoming sophomore album titled ‘Thrash for Justice’, which is going to be released on August 2023 via CDN Records.

Tabahi comprises lead guitarist Faiq Ahmed (who founded the band back in 2005), and bassist/vocalist Daniyal Buksh Soomro. During live gigs, Omair Soomro handles the drums for the band.
