COORDINATES single ‘ALL I HAVE’ packs a fistful punch

1 min read

This Indian metal band COORDINATES from the country’s capital for sure keeping all promises strong. Recently, they released a brand new single ‘All I Have’ last month after they debuted with the hit single ‘Alive’ back in January 2021. And oh boy, isn’t it a gratifying follow-up to their debut single!

Coordinates is a progressive-based metalcore quartet, (for nerds who nitpick genres) who craft a modern sound characterized by lush soundscapes, heavily layered guitars, ethereal vocal lines & aggressive riffage. The band’s music often includes complex rhythms, unsettling ambience and a dynamic of clean & harsh vocals – creating an atmosphere that feels fresh, yet familiar. Formed around the talents of guitarists Yash Sharma and Surbhit Singh, vocalist Kamaljit Singha and drummer Rishabh Kapoor in 2020.

In their second single ‘All I Have’, Coordinates have shredded off all the remnants of non-metal roots in their music that were visible in their earlier release(s) and boldly embraced their prog-induced metalcore identity. Commencing with a direct earth-rumbling riff assault with Kamaljit’s searing growl coming off better than ever, the song offers some memorable teeth-clenching breakdowns throughout its entirety.

It is one of those tightly-packed punch-in-the-gut compositions that one would anticipate as the album opener of a full-length record. If their previous release ‘Alive’ validated them as someone who wouldn’t shy away from borrowing different shades of influences, then this single ‘All I Have’ has put their brush back to their own palette which is no less dauntingly remarkable in itself.

Although much heavier and robust in approach, the track is carefully crafted enough to avoid the trap of monotony in composition somehow. The production quality is neat, leaving sufficient room for vox Kamaljit to paint the song evocatively with his almost equally adept harsh and clean vocal notes. A wholesome package, especially for the disciples of modern metal sound, the single has surely cemented its place as the potential successor to fellow indigenous ‘desi’ acts, Skyharbor and Noiseware, at least in a stylistic sense. To put it bluntly, ‘All I Have’ is probably, or perhaps undebatably, shines bright as one of the best Indian metal releases of 2021.
