MORAL PUTREFACTION unveil first single ‘Serpent’s Gaze’ from their upcoming album

1 min read

Death metal as a sub-genre has seen significant evolution since its inception almost four decades back. Moral Putrefaction, a trio based in Chennai, India epitomises that diversity, as their blend of death metal music showcases both old-school and modern elements almost perfectly.

A few weeks back, Moral Putrefaction released a brand new single called ‘Serpent’s Gaze’, which has been plucked from their upcoming debut full-length record. A self-titled record, the album will release independently on May 24 across the globe.

The track boasts all the traditional ingredients of a classic death metal composition – impeccable blast beats, earth-shattering heavy riffs, intense death growls that could invoke any hellish beast.

No sooner than clicking the play button, you’ll be welcomed by the gushing down-tuned riffs accompanied by piercing pinch harmonics. The tremolo-picking guitar sounds brutally evil, well supported by the machine gun double bass drumming. The gnarly vocal style of vocalist Shiva is reminiscent more of the late 80s era (think of Morbid Angel and Immolation) than their modern counterparts.

On the lyrical aspects of the song, vocalist/guitarist Shiva Moorthy said, “Following the theme of the other tracks in the album, our first single “Serpent’s Gaze” is about how politicians and people in power lure people with false promises and lies to keep their positions intact.”

The band has also released a sick-looking lyric visualiser video for the song which showcases a feathered serpent towering over its victims. ‘Serpent’s Gaze’ was mixed and mastered by Aakash Sherpa of Anomaly Sound Designs. Vocals and drums were recorded by Florina Jane.
