Eternal Scorn was incepted in the year 2012 as a young thrash metal band based in Shillong that accumulates, combines and fuse both elements of old school and a new wave of thrash metal into their music and the outlet of that amalgamation is rather pure, aggressive and an enticing madness, thus proven so since their earlier materials such as Fist by Fist and Nuclear Hands, straight-up thrashy!

However, what makes Eternal Scorn a more solicitous and engrossing new-age metal band is due to the release of their new demo Rice Cooker Destroyer (RCD in short). The track opens up with a slightly slow-paced bass drum and a series of rolls on the snare with a tad bit of an overlaid shredding riffage that lasts for a few seconds and then we finally arrive at the point of speed, a fast-edgy riff that sounds a lot more of a mixture or a fusion between crossover punk/thrash with old school thrash elements till the very end.

But there’s a moment before the vocals surface; a split-second heavy bass-line solo emerges, which I think is a thrash signature sound, and then it just kind of takes off from there till the very end. What really stood out the most (For me, personally) was the vocals. You, as in the readers and followers may not agree with what I have to say but to perform vocals in a thrash band is one of the hardest. In my opinion, this is the reason why there aren’t too many Thrash bands in the region, yet.

Now back to the Demo, if you have been following or have just recently checked out Eternal Scorn, you will notice that Manfred (vocalist) sounds unique and different, that’s because he has improved impressively and seems to have corrected his flaws and found his musical ingenuity as a thrash vocalist. If you go back to their earlier releases and compare, in RCD his vocal is smooth, not trying too hard to shout or scream, not trying too hard to be harsh and aggressive, there’s a bit of a grunt-growl exerted out from the diaphragm but it’s all better, it perfectly flows along with the high-speed music and that to me is impeccable.

The song is just over a minute and 36 seconds long with two lyrical verses and a one-line chorus which goes, “Rice Cooker Destroyer” in a censured manner of attack since the whole song is a reference towards drunkards and you know drunkards, they stagger yet they think they’re a character of The Godfather since they’re “Walking in the streets like a big man,” (Lines from the song). Drunkards brawl and then crawl yet still as the band puts it in the song, “Run your *##$* mouth like you’re Superman.”

The lyric is realistic, so in a way, it’s not baseless and merely writing it out from thin air, it has a more philosophical meaning on how drunkards are and what they become in that state of mind which makes the song even more powerful and engrossing. The track was recorded, mixed & mastered by Nangsan Lyngwa of Plague Throat.

But, yeah, imagine a thrash song with two verses and a chorus in less than two minutes, it requires speed (If this genre isn’t already about speed, fast riffage as I’ve mentioned time and again) and you would think that it would be a rush with all the elements they employ but yet it sounds complete, satisfying and just WHAT THE FAWK (Awesome song!).

We’ve already seen, witnessed, heard, and concluded that Eternal Scorn is a group of talented musicians, hard-working and utterly keen on delivering speed and aggression music, and RCD has just proven that. Well, it’s an eye-opener, to be honest. Now with Fred’s improvement vocally, I hope that Eternal Scorn will keep up with the pace of intensity to grow, progress, and improve even better.
