The count of hot & fresh singles in my vicinity went up by one in the mid of June when Jaipur based DemigoD dropped their newest release ‘Black Rose Dying’. They have come a long way since their debut and have consistently been on our Ironsights ever since.

A sweet mesmerizing intro with soft tempo greeted me right off the bat and lit up the warm mushy zone of my brain like a Christmas tree, an unexpected treat owing to the title of the song. I must admit, its a fairly unique track in the sense that it showcases the six-man squad’s ability to display a bold overlap of subgenres.  Whether it is a rare one-time experimental maneuver or just another step towards creative rediscovery and refinement of their art is yet to be seen, but I am glad that they didn’t recklessly drift too far off and still have one firm foot into their core X-factor. The song at its crux doesn’t foray too much towards the heavier side, and retains its gentle instrumental layers, for the most part, creating a sinful sinusoidal ambiance of coziness.

The band’s vocalists did a great job from a thematic point of view by incorporating several shades of the wide emotional spectrum that the song wanted to evoke, but the lyrics are slightly lacking in my opinion. The beautiful and melodious emo vibes in the chunky first act did hit the right chord with me but the delivery of certain notes and the accompanying lyrics break the immersion to an extent in several spots. In no way, I am implying that it was a sloppy job or anything, but it simply isn’t the strongest aspect of an otherwise solid track, and it might have a similar polarizing reception by the fans (both returning and potential newcomers). Pointing out the specifics would stray into highly subjective nitpicking territory, so I would leave it at that.

BandImage DemigoDOther than that, I loved the slick interwoven overtones that add sophisticated veneer and strengthen the impassioned impact. Past the 3:30 mark, they drop the metaphorical mic and explode into a visceral frenzy that I was expecting and eagerly waiting for. The unapologetically short montage of the ephemeral guitar solo, mercurial chugging breakdowns, steady succulent bass, and the fervent screams backed by a deft display of ruthless beats take the song to its peak fever pitch euphoria. The outro delicately bridges the vigorous spike in intensity and brings us back to the softer tempo that the intro inflicted. And the only grudge I would hold out against them would be the fact that they dial it down to the said levels of sobriety, way sooner than my unfurled ponytail was expecting.

A warm shoutout to Yatin from Cosmograph Productions who did a splendid job on the official video. The pleasant abstract visuals supplemented the soft charismatic feels of the first half and the intense visual volatility complimented the frenzy of the breakdowns in the latter portion as the song picks up in ferocity. Also, I couldn’t help but notice that they have managed to hold on to their spectacular consistency in production value.

I have enjoyed DemigoD’s previous releases and even reviewed some in the past, but this one certainly hit a different chord as compared to their previous works, and while composition-wise it certainly isn’t your typical metalcore song, but it is this youthful adventurism that gives it a unique identity. In essence, it is not a song that I would draw ceremonial moshpit battle lines to but is definitely a polished snack for a diverse audience. A suave blend that employs ambitious elements on top of their unique battle-hardened style. Heartily recommended.
