Parikrama was formed by Subir Malik, Nitin Malik, and Sonam Sherpa on June 17 of 1991 after they met at a college gig in New Delhi.

Throughout the 90s and into the 2000s, Parikrama released several hit singles and also kept performing live in many cities across the country, thus gradually growing in stature. Especially in college festivals, Parikrama established itself as a household name with hit singles such as ‘Till I’m No One Again’, ‘But It Rained’, ‘Vapourize’, ‘Am I Dreaming?’ and ‘Xerox’.

They also released a single with Indian legendary playback singer Usha Uthup titled ‘Rhythm and Blues’ which was accompanied by a music video. Their last single, ‘Tears of the Wizard’, was released back in 2019, the music video of which was shot in the valley of Mechuka situated in Arunachal Pradesh.

But on February 14, 2020, Parikrama lost their longtime member and lead guitarist Sonam Sherpa, as he succumbed to a cardiac arrest in the Kurseong town near Darjeeling. Sherpa, then aged 48, was one of the iconic guitarists in India and was also featured in the ‘Top 10 Guitarists of India’ list compiled by Rolling Stone India.

In 2007, Parikrama became the first Indian band to perform at the prestigious Download Festival in Donnington, UK opening for international acts such as Iron Maiden, Lamb of God, and Evanescence.
