Remember when rock n’ roll was all about extravaganza and excesses of life? When long hair, spandex, foundation, and nail paint, used to be an essential imagery of rock music? It might seem now like a thing of the past, but it’s never truly gone. Nemophilis, from Pune, is one such classic act, carrying the baton of the old-school rock scene, which we all have loved growing up listening to.

And, in celebration of that era, the band has recently released a brand new music video for their single ‘Paralyzed’, taken out from their upcoming studio album.

For starters, Nemophilis is a three-piece hard rock outfit hailing from Pune, which has been around since 2015 but started putting out original singles only a few years back. The song ‘Paralyzed’ talks about forbidden love and temptation, which is quite sensually depicted in the music video through an amorous episode between two people.

“Lyrically, it’s completely different from anything we write about, talking about a love/hate relationship within physical encounters between two individuals who were never meant to be together”, comments frontman Kshitij Kumar.

Musically speaking, the song tries to emulate the true essence of the 70s hard rock, while at the same time incorporating elements of the 80s hair metal movement as well. Think of bands like Van Halen, UFO, Mötley Crüe, and Cinderella, with more emphasis on modern sound production.

The song has all the ingredients that make up an ideal rock composition; a groovy yet heavy riff, a delicious lead solo backed up by a powerful rhythm section, and a powerful high-pitched vocal that could remind anyone of glam metal’s glory days. Talking about the sound, Kshitij says, “The song acts as a bridge between the old sound we had and the new sound we’ll be unveiling in the new album, containing elements from both our eras.”

And the cherry on top is the effortless lead guitar solo played by Aditya Swaminathan (from Kill The King and Demonic Resurrection) which gives a cathartic completion to the song. Apart from Kshitij Kumar on vocal and guitar, Nemophilis boasts of Akarsh Singh on drums and Saurabh Lodha on bass.

Vidhi Shah directed the music video, whereas Habeel Bakshi shot and edited the video. Their upcoming debut full-length album, of which ‘Paralyzed’ is a part, is titled ‘The Iceberg’ and is due in May 2023.
